Are Strollers Allowed at the San Diego Zoo?

Yes, strollers are allowed at the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

San Diego Zoo is actually a very stroller friendly park and you will be able to access most areas of the zoo with your stroller.

If you get on any busses or tour vehicles at the zoo however you will either need to fold your stroller up (if there is storage space on the vehicle) or leave it in a designated stroller area.

As of this writing there are no posted restrictions on the types of strollers you can bring into the San Diego Zoo. This is unlike many attractions in Southern California that have banned wagon strollers

Can you bring your own strollers to the San Diego Zoo?

You can definitely bring your own stroller to the San Diego Zoo.

San Diego Zoo wants all of their guests to have a comfortable experience during their visit to the zoo, so bringing your own stroller onto the property won't be an issue.

We recommend bring a lightweight stroller as you'll be walking for most of the day and some of the ground at the San Diego Zoo is more of a rough concrete than a smooth surface.

You'll find that bringing your own stroller might also provide your child with a much more comfortable experience as the strollers available for rent the zoo are made of a hard plastic material with no cushioning.

You may also want to consider bringing a stroller with a fair amount of sun coverage as there are many areas without shade at the San Diego Zoo, so having a bit of sun protection for your child might help with keeping cool!

Does the San Diego Zoo have Stroller Rentals?

Yes, the San Diego Zoo does have stroller rentals available on property!

If you don't feel like bringing your own stroller to the San Diego Zoo then you'll be able to rent a stroller from San Diego Zoo near the entrance of the property.

Strollers are on a first come, first served basis, so there is a chance that all strollers may be rented if you arrive later in the day.

Be sure to keep this in mind if you know you'll absolutely need a stroller while you're at the zoo!

What Types of Strollers are Available to Rent?

The San Diego Zoo has two types of strollers available: single and double.

As the name suggests, single strollers are designed for one child while double strollers are designed for two children.

Both of these strollers are made with a hard plastic material and have no soft fabric cushion - the strollers are designed more so to be durable and easy to clean, rather than comfortable!

If comfort is a major priority for your child then we recommend bringing your own stroller which will nearly always be more comfortable than the strollers available for rent at the zoo.

How Much Do Stroller Rentals Cost?

Stroller prices are listed below:

  • Single Stroller (typically fits one child): $16.00
  • Double Stroller (typically fits two children): $20.00

There are no discounts offered on stroller rentals, so be prepared to pay the full price listed if you're going to need a stroller.
