Does Six Flags Close When it Rains? | Know Before You Go
When you're visiting a theme park, rain is one of the few things that you can't control, that can still impact your experience.
In this page, we will explain what the Six Flags rain policy is for each park, and whether or not the park offers a complimentary ticket due to inclement weather.
Does Six Flags Close When It Rains?
During a light rain shower, the Six Flags park will remain open however, if the rain begins to pick up and/or thunderstorms are on the horizon, outdoor rides will temporarily close for safety reasons.
The outdoor rides will open back up once the weather is deemed suitable to continue.

As of the time of this writing, only two Six Flags parks offer complimentary weather due to inclement weather including:

How to Prepare For Rain Before Your Six Flags Visit
A Poncho is one of the best investments you can make when visiting a theme park due to its low cost and ability to store it anywhere.
This unisex, lightweight reusable poncho has worked been our go-to option over the years at dozens of theme parks.
The reason that a poncho is better than an umbrella at a theme park is that it's very lightweight and can fit virtually anywhere when it is folded up.
If you bring an umbrella, you may need to store it in lockers throughout your day. You can purchase ponchos on Amazon ahead of time, or at the park.
The Six Flags app is extremely handy as it provides live wait times, an interactive map of the park, allows you to pre-order food, and even locate the closest restrooms.
If a Poncho Isn't For You Consider An Umbrella Instead
The most reliable umbrella that we've found over the years has been the Repel Umbrella.
Some of our favorite features from this umbrella include:
- Wind Resistant - Won't Bend or Fold During High Winds
- Portable - Easy to Put Away After Use
- 1 Button - to Open and Close
- Non Slip Grip - Easy to Hold During Severe Storms
- Unisex - Can Be Used For Both Men and Women
Consider Enabling Rain Notifications On Your iPhone
If you're visiting a theme park, especially on a day when there's a chance of rain, you'll want to enable rain notifications.
We have this on during every theme park and it comes in extremely handy when it warns us that rain is approaching a few minutes before it begins raining.
This small rain notification gives us plenty of time to seek shelter or find an indoor ride to ride in the meantime.
It'll also send out a notification when the rain is clearing up, letting us know that we start making our way toward the outdoor rides soon.
This small feature gives us a 'leg up' on everyone else in the park, as we're able to know what's going to happen a few minutes before everyone else.
