How Scary Are The Rides At Universal Studios Hollywood?

Most rides at Universal Studios Hollywood aren't scary at all.

Even the rides listed below aren't terrifying, but they do have some jump scares, dark moments, and surprises that might get your heart pounding. These moments are very brief, so don't let this list scare you from riding!

Note: This list does not include Halloween Horror Nights mazes and scare zones! We're only counting down year-round attractions on this list.

#1: Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride

By far our scariest ride at Universal Studios Hollywood award goes to Revenge of the Mummy.

As you can see in the video below the ride takes place in a haunted tomb which already sets the stage for a scary experience.

The ride includes multiple moments in pitch black darkness, mummies springing from the ground, and some scary imagery projected on the screens and walls.

Revenge of the Mummy might be the only truly "scary" ride at Universal Studios Hollywood as it embraces many terrifying moments from the film series it's named after.

#2: Jurassic World - The Ride

Jurassic World The Ride Sign

Jurassic World is one of the most popular rides at Universal Studios Hollywood that also has its share of scary moments.

With dinosaurs escaping from their cages, a massive Indominus Rex hunting you and an equally as massive sliding plunge to escape the rampaged facility, Jurassic World certainly can be frightening to many.

The ride is truly impressive and while the dinosaurs may be intimidating it's an incredible attraction we recommend experiencing!

We recommend watching the video below if you're worried it may be too intense, but be warned you may ruin a few surprises by watching!

#3: King Kong 360 3-D

Our list of scariest rides at Universal Studios Hollywood rounds out with King Kong 360 3-D.

King Kong 360 is part of the World Famous Studio Tour but feels like a different ride entirely on its own.

While not too scary, the ride features huge projections of King Kong fighting massive dinosaurs which might be a bit intense for some people, but overall we don't find it too scary.

The World Famous Studio Tour is a can't miss attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood - if you're worried about King Kong 360 being too scary then we'd recommend watching the video above to prepare yourself.

King Kong 360 is only a few minutes of the hour long studio tour experience, so don't let just a few scary moments deter you from experiencing one of the best attractions at the park!

What Are The Least Scary Rides At Universal Studios Hollywood?

If scary rides aren't your thing, and you're looking to play it as safe as possible by starting with some of the least scary rides at Universal Studios Hollywood... then we've got you covered as well!

Below are our picks for the top 3 least scary rides at Universal Studios Hollywood:

#1: Silly Swirly

Easily taking the cake as the least scary ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is Silly Swirly, located in Super Silly Fun Land.

Silly Swirly is a slow moving, carousel-like ride that takes place outdoors, so you know exactly what you're getting into.

While the ride may spin in circles, it does so at a slow enough pace that it shouldn't cause motion sickness except in rare circumstances.

Other than the spinning and a slight lift into the air when the ride begins - the ride is quite simple and tame!

#2: The Secret Life Of Pets: Off The Leash

Coming in as the second least scary ride at Universal Studios Hollywood is the new kid favorite, The Secret Life Of Pets: Off The Leash.

Off The Leash is themed to a very popular children's movie, so Universal had to be sure to keep the ride tame but also well-themed to ensure it lands well with kids and parents alike.

While there may be some moments where the lighting is a bit dark as well as some loud noises, Off The Leash is a fun, slow-moving ride starring some very friendly animated pets!

Secret Life of Pets Animatronics

#3: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Based on one of the most beloved children's movie franchises, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is another attraction Universal had to ensure was very kid friendly while also being a lot of fun.

Minion Mayhem is a motion simulator ride, but with much less dramatic or abrupt movements you may be familiar with on some simulator rides like Star Tours.

Minion Mayhem is a simulator that is turned down a bit to mostly be a 4D movie experience with some moving and shaking, but generally very tame and shouldn't be too frightening.

Because the ride does have more movements and loud noises than The Secret Life Of Pets, we rank it just below on the least scary ride scale!
